This is an outstanding boater hat from the 1940s! The flat, round and short crown is surrounded by a short brim. Around the crown there is as pink velour band that ends in a bow at the back. The most outstanding feature of this hat is the pink feather \"BIRD HEAD\" with rhinestone eyes and a red beak, as shown in then photos. To finish the look there is a full brown veil. A boater (also straw boater, basher, skimmer, The English Panama, cady, katie, canotier, somer, or sennit hat) is a semi-formal summer hat for men, which was popularised in the late 19th century and early 20th century. The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war & on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials. Explosions of feathers, veiling & artificial flowers were popular. Label:THE STYLE SHOP HUNTINGTON, W. VA This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age. Mannequin not for sale.
